A CHILD IN THE SUN AGAIN

In this world surrounded by pain,
On a cold planet that has no heart.
I long to be a child in the sun again,
Happily playing in the park.

Just forgetting the worries I fret each day,
No pressures, work, or deadlines.
No telephone bills, no rent to pay,
No stereotypes of any kind.

Where my biggest problem is skinning my knee,
Or being on time for dinner.
When my mind was naive, full of curiosity,
Before I learned to be a sinner.

Totally unaware of the opposite sex,
Content within my imagination.
Eager to greet this day and the next,
Awakening without hesitations.

Chasing dreams and butterflies,
With something new in everything.
Flying kites under sunny blue skies,
Interested in whatever I am doing.

Blowing bubbles that burst in the air,
Jumping puddles created by the rain.
I would give anything to be back there,
To be a child in the sun again.
